D-Day Museum and Overlord Embroidery

Clarence Esplanade

2017-2018: Thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the D-Day Museum’s interior will be completely refurbished as part of our Transforming the D-Day Museum project. The museum will be open as usual through to 12 March 2017 inclusive, after which the refurbishment will commence. We plan that the museum will reopen in Spring 2018.

The Museum will oepn 11am - 3pm on New Year's Day.

Portsmouth's award winning Visitor Information Team is based at the D-Day Museum and is here to help you make the most of your time in the city. Our friendly team will help you plan your visit, with information and lots of suggestions on accommodation, attractions, entertainment and events. As well as discounted tickets for attractions we also sell tickets for local events and entertainment including no fee bookings for the Kings Theatre in Southsea, the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth and the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. Charles Dickens Birthplace

393 Old Commercial Road

Open Friday 31st March - Sunday 1st October 2017, Friday - Sunday only, 10am - 5.30pm.
Last entry to Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum 30 minutes before closing time.

Southsea Castle

Clarence Esplanade

Open Tuesday 21st March - Sunday 29th October 2017, Tuesday - Sunday, and Bank Holiday Mondays, 10.00am - 5.00pm. Closed on Mondays (except for Bank Holidays).
The Courtyard Cafe (located inside the Castle) is open throughout the year: click here for more information. There is no access to the rest of the Castle outside the Castle's normal opening times.

Last entry to Southsea Castle 30 minutes before closing time.

Natural History Museum at Cumberland House

Please note: Phase one of the new Butterfly House project at Cumberland House Natural History Museum will be underway from mid-December. This will see the current butterfly house removed and the terrace behind the house brought back to its former glory.

A new ramp will be installed at the same time improving access for everyone to the building.

As the museum cannot be open for these works we are taking this opportunity to carry out essential work to the historic interior.

The museum will re-open April 2017.

Eastney Beam Engine House

The Beam Engine House is normally open from 1pm to 5pm in the last complete weekend (Saturday & Sunday) in every month, except December.
